Set Up IPTV on Android TV

Android TV powers millions of TVs and streaming boxes, including the NVIDIA Shield, Sony Bravia sets, and many Philips and Sharp models. It is one of the best platforms for IPTV thanks to its large app selection.

Quick answer: On Android TV, open the Google Play Store, install an IPTV player app, then enter your Xtream Codes login or M3U link. Load the channel list and program guide, and you are ready to watch. Most setups take under 10 minutes.

Android TV or Google TV? Check first

If your home screen has tabs like For you, Movies, and Shows, you have Google TV. Follow the Google TV setup guide instead. If you see rows of apps with an Apps section and the Play Store icon, you are on classic Android TV, and this guide is for you.

Step 1: Install a player from Google Play

  1. From the home screen, open the Google Play Store.
  2. Search for "IPTV player."
  3. Choose a well-reviewed player with recent updates. Popular Android TV options include TiviMate and IPTV Smarters Pro. Some offer premium features for a small fee.
  4. Select Install, then Open.

Step 2: Add your login details

In the player, choose how to add a playlist:

  • Xtream Codes: enter the server URL, username, and password from your AtlaTV message.
  • M3U playlist: enter the playlist link.

Tip: the free Google TV app on your phone includes a remote with a keyboard, which saves time when typing long server addresses.

Step 3: Set up the program guide

With Xtream Codes logins, most players load the guide automatically. If the guide stays empty, open the player's settings, find EPG or TV guide, and choose Update. The first update can take a few minutes.

Step 4: Personalize your setup

  • Hide channel groups you never watch to keep the list short.
  • Add favorites so your go-to channels are one click away.
  • Set the player to open straight into Live TV on launch, if it offers that option.

Installing apps that aren't on Google Play

If you need a player that isn't in the Play Store:

  1. Go to Settings → Device Preferences → About and click Build 7 times to enable developer mode.
  2. Go to Settings → Device Preferences → Security & restrictions → Unknown sources and allow your file manager or downloader app.
  3. Download the app only from its official developer website and install it.

Menu names vary slightly by manufacturer. Look for similar wording if yours differ.

Performance tips for Android TV boxes

  • Connect with Ethernet whenever you can. Most Android TV boxes have a port.
  • Free up storage. Boxes with less than 1 GB free can stutter.
  • Turn on "Match frame rate" or "Refresh rate switching" in display settings if available.

If something isn't working, see the IPTV troubleshooting guide or go back to the IPTV setup guide for other devices.
