IPTV on Google TV: Complete Setup
Google TV is now the default interface on Chromecast devices, the Google TV Streamer, and many Sony, TCL, and Hisense televisions. The app store is a little hidden, but setup is quick once you know where to look.
By AtlaTV Support Team · Updated
Quick answer: On Google TV, go to the Search or Apps tab, find an IPTV player in the Google Play Store, and install it. Open the player, enter your login details, and wait for the channel list and guide to load. If you need an app from outside the Play Store, enable developer mode and Unknown sources first.
Supported Google TV devices
- Chromecast with Google TV (4K and HD)
- Google TV Streamer
- Smart TVs with Google TV built in (Sony, TCL, Hisense, Philips, and others)
- Other Google TV streaming boxes
Step 1: Find and install a player app
- Open the Search tab (or press the Google Assistant button).
- Search for "IPTV player" or the name of a specific player.
- Select the app in the results and choose Install.
- When it finishes, choose Open. The app also appears under Apps.
Step 2: Sign in with your details
Choose Xtream Codes login if the app offers it and enter your server URL, username, and password. Otherwise, choose M3U playlist and enter your link. Your AtlaTV message includes both.
Step 3: Load channels and the program guide
The first sync downloads your channel list and guide data. Give it a minute or two. If the guide stays blank, open the player's settings and refresh the EPG (electronic program guide).
Optional: installing apps from outside the Play Store
- Go to Settings → System → About and click Android TV OS build 7 times to turn on developer mode.
- Go to Settings → Apps → Security & restrictions → Unknown sources and allow your downloader or file manager app.
- Download apps only from their official developer sites.
Getting the best performance
- Watch storage. Chromecast with Google TV has only 8 GB. Uninstall unused apps and clear the player's cache if it slows down.
- Go wired. A USB-C hub with Ethernet (or the Google TV Streamer's built-in port) removes most buffering.
- Match content frame rate: Settings → Display & Sound → Advanced display settings. This helps live sports look smoother.

Google TV IPTV FAQ
Does IPTV work on Google TV?
Yes. Google TV devices, including Chromecast with Google TV, Google TV Streamer, and Google TV smart TVs from Sony, TCL, and Hisense, run IPTV player apps from the Google Play Store.
Where is the Play Store on Google TV?
Google TV hides the Play Store icon. Go to the Apps tab or use the Search tab and type the app name. You can also say the app name into the voice remote.
Is Chromecast with Google TV good for IPTV?
Yes, although it has limited storage. Keep only the apps you use, and consider a USB-C hub with Ethernet if your Wi-Fi is weak near the TV.
Can I cast IPTV from my phone instead?
Some mobile player apps support casting, but a player installed directly on the Google TV device gives a smoother experience and full remote control.
